HYOTAN
(Japanese Gourd)
Since ancient times of Japan, there is a saying " From a Hyotan springs a HORSE." Synonymous to " The COW jumped over the moon." The meaning behind this saying was, that every thing possible, or miracles happen from the HYOTAN.
The large Hyotan was also used as a canteen to carry sake (rice wine ), or water on long trips. The Hyotan became a lucky symbol
or charm. Asian hung Hyotan in the house to trap any bad luck.
To this day the Hyotan is a loved charm symbolizing Good Lock in Japan as other Asian countries.
